We are delighted to announce the second session of BID the Screen, the moving image programme of Biennale Internazionale Donna. This screening is part of interferences, the Biennale’s public programme, and is curated by Riccardo Rizzetto.
BID the Screen is a space dedicated to research-based and experimental film practices that challenge how reality is narrated and authorised. To "bid" the screen is to acknowledge it not as a neutral surface, but as a political device where images are ordered and futures are imagined.
Our second session on 25 April brings together two films that reflect on different forms of mediation through which images, voices and experiences travel across distance.
- Filipa César + Louis Henderson, Sunstone: A trace through the genealogy of optical technologies, from 19th-century lighthouse lenses to contemporary networks of satellite vision and algorithmic orientation.
- Nick Calori + Nicola Sersale, Letters from the Blue: An exploration of the fragile infrastructures of human communication, revealing how correspondence creates spaces of empathy across systems designed to isolate.
Together, these works examine how mediation operates across different scales; from global optical infrastructures to intimate acts of correspondence.
