Can you feel us?

Lučka Centa (1996) is an intermedia artist who lives and works in Ljubljana, Slovenia. In 2021 she graduated from the Complutense University of Madrid with a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. She is currently enrolled in the second year of a Masters in Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Artsand Design, University of Ljubljana. Her artistic practice focuses on the human impact on nature, our dependence on the natural world and the interconnectedness of different parts and forms of life. Working primarily in the media of installation, performance, video and photography, she is currently focusing on developing a methodology for materializing her work with the body. She is interested in incorporating the bodies of others into the gallery space using various natural materials that she finds while walking in the woods. She works with the intention of engaging the viewer's body and enabling a connection between the audience and the materials she chooses to work with, hoping that the viewer will acknowledge life through its (lack of) presence. She works with the idea that the body is both a natural and a social object, which allows it to function as a bridge between the two spheres. We live inside of you. You live inside of us. The installation invites the viewer to perceive existence as a whole, representing the interconnectedness and interdependence of different parts and forms of life. The object establishes a dialogue about the temporality of existence through the use of the bodies of perished creatures, hand-picked in recent years while walking in the woods. The composition, made of natural materials such as wood, stones, a mushroom, human hair, bones, dry lizard carcass, dirt and feathers, creates an intimate yet airy and mystical space. As an object it responds to the movement of the viewer and changes in the environment. The viewer can enter the space to establish a subjective relationship with the bodies, while their fragility demands a calm and caring interaction.
